Where The Wild Things Are (2009) 7/10

Starring : Max Records, Catherine Keener, James Gandolfini, Paul Dano, Catherine O'Hara, Forest Whitaker, Chris Cooper
Director : Spike Jonze
Running Time : 99 mins

Twelve year old Max (Records) runs away from home after a falling out with his mum and his sister and finds a small boat which he climbs into and sets sail to a mysterious island inhabited by wild monsters. They soon make him their king and he discovers their world filled with monstrous fun and adventure, as well as darker moments of true horror.

This was a strange movie that easily met with my expectations, having read the book as a child. I loved the cat pyjamas and the monsters themselves were great to watch and I thought it was great that they weren’t given exaggerated monster voices. Kids and adults alike will find something to like about this movie, although it does drag on for quite a while.
